DocPilot Privacy Policy

Last updated 14 October 2026

DocPilot is a browser extension made by Brodie Cantrill. It lets you open a Word document and get editing suggestions from Google Gemini. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

In short: the developer does not collect, store or see your documents or your Gemini key. Everything is saved in your own browser. Your document text is sent to Google Gemini only when you ask DocPilot for a review, a rewrite or a chat reply.

What DocPilot stores, and where

What is sent to Google

When you click Review my document, use a quick rewrite action, or send a chat message, DocPilot sends the document text (or the text you selected) and your request directly from your browser to the Google Gemini API at generativelanguage.googleapis.com, using your own API key. Nothing is sent to Google until you ask for one of these actions.

Google processes that request under the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. On Gemini's free tier, Google may use submitted content to improve its products, and it may be seen by human reviewers. Please don't use DocPilot with confidential or sensitive documents unless you use a paid Gemini API key.

What we don't do

Right-click "Edit selection in DocPilot"

If you use this menu option, only the text you selected is copied into DocPilot. DocPilot does not read or access web pages any other way.

Children

DocPilot is not directed at children under 13. Google requires Gemini API users to be 18 or older.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update it on this page and change the date at the top.
